Your CDSL Demat Account Number - A Shield against wrong transfers
Did you know that the way we have structured your CDSL demat account number, automatically
reduces the risk of wrong transfers?
Your account in CDSL is unique across the CDSL system i.e. no other demat accountholder
with any of CDSL's DPs will have the same number. Therefore, if you are to receive shares
from your broker, sub-broker, or just about anyone, you can be sure that they will reach
your account, and no other. The same goes for shares transferred by you to any other CDSL
demat accountholder. The CDSL account number consists of 16 digits. The first 8 digits
indicate the "DP-ID" and next 8 digits indicate the "Client-ID" eg. if your demat account
number is :13025800 00001234, then 13025800 form the DP-Id, while 00001234 form the Client-Id.
How to write your CDSL demat account number in public issue forms:
You would also be aware that many prominent Public Issues (IPOs) would be launched in the
market in the near future. While applying for these IPOs, demat accountholders are required to mention their
demat account number in the IPO application form if they want credit of allotted securities in the dematerialised
form. It is observed that in some cases, the IPO application form contains a 16-block format for filling in the
CDSL demat account number. However, in case of some others, separate blocks are provided in the application form for
giving details of DP-Id and Client ID.
While mentioning the CDSL demat account number in the IPO application forms (in cases where separate blocks for
giving details of DP-Id and client IDs are provided), the demat account number can be written in the following manner:
| DP ID |
First 8 digits of the 16 digit BO ID |
| Client ID |
Next 8 digits of the 16 digit BO ID |
